Looks like they wouldn't dare to
break the jinx. The success bond
that started in 'Ayan', continued till
their recent venture 'Maatrraan'. We
are talking about the combination of
KV Anand and Harris Jeyaraj, who
have consistently and continuously
given nothing but the best.
However, there were reports that the
winds may change direction towards
Anirudh, for Anand's next film
starring Dhanush. But the director
put his foot down and signed up his
lucky charm Harris for this film too.
Therefore, Harris will be composing
for Dhanush, for the first time.
However, the actor has recorded a
song for the composer, for his
project, 'Irandam Ulagam', starring
Arya. The song is said to be set in a
pub mood, and the music album will
be launched soon.

Buddy Malayalam Movie Review
Coming from a debutante Raj
Prabhavathy Menon, Buddy is a light
hearted family flick which talks about
emotional bonding between a son
and his 'biological' father , who
realizes about each other only after
eighteen years. Though with liberal
doses of paronomasia, and a light,
simple storyline, 'Buddy' may not
offend you as many other new
generation movies do.
Buddy has Midhun Murali as Vishnu,
who is born out of artificial
insemination to one of the ladies
among Meenakshy(Asha sharath) and
Padma(Bhumika), whom he considers
as his mothers though he resists
knowing who among them is his
biological mother. Meenakshy is a
famous writer while padma is doing
research on classical dances. One
the day when he turns eighteen,
Vishnu is disclosed about his
unknown father. But the
adventurous guy he is, Vishnu with
the help of his friends, Diya and
Govind finds clues about the man
who donated the sperm. They track
him up in Ooty where he is living as
Manikunju,(Anoop Menon) the
millionaire who is celebrating life as
a detached man who doesn't want to
keep any solid relations. He has a
gang in Rtd Dy S P Shankaran
Namboodhiri (Balachandra Menon),
Chandran Singh (Babu Antony), Biju
Pattambi (Arun) and Kurisu(Josutty)
who lives with him in his
magnificent bungalow and does
everything according to the whims
and fancies of Manikunju.
When Vishnu introduces himself as
his 'technical and biological father ',
Manikunju is hardly in a mood for
sentiments, but asks Vishnu to
consider him as a buddy than a
daddy.Vishnu soon gets into a
college in Ootty and starts living
together with Manikunju and his
friends. But within days the
detached father sees himself getting
more and more attached to his
biological son
The highlight of the movie is a very
fresh theme, never ever discussed in
Mollywood. It passes through
plentiful of twists and carefully
avoids melodrama and cliches in
most of its reels. This effort is quite
evident, just as the lead character of
Anoop menon who proclaims himself
to be the one who hates sentiments
and tragedy. But the flick suffers
many times with the average viewer
unable to connect with a movie that
is emotionally plain, especially in
the former half. The insemination
and associated stories are hastily
placed in the plot without any
detailing. Moreover, overdose of
double entendre's and buddy
comedies spoil the quality of the
first hour. But the second half
gathers meat and propels the movie
to an acceptable finale.
The dialogues by Bipin chandran are
something that stands out in the
movie , that but is delivered much in
an uniform tone in the former hour.
The director depended mostly on
uncut lengthy shots and lesser close-
ups to craft his sequences, which
failed in establishing sufficient
emotional buildups. The flashback of
Anoopmenon featuring T G Ravi is
also unconvincing with a plastic feel
through out.. The movie is a little
over lengthy at 154 minutes, as
sequences comes out in a relaxed
edit by Dileep Dennis. Some of the
songs are unwanted and appear as
speedbreakers.The technical
standards are but top notch with
prakashkutty capturing the best of
the exotic locales and interiors in
finely toned visuals , setting up the
mood of the film.
The performances are fairly good
with Anoopmenon checking his
flexibility in a role that seems to
have written with Mohanlal in mind.
He can also be seen flexing his
muscles for a lengthy slow motion
action sequences in the later half.
Balachandramenon excels in his
comeback as Shanku bhai.Midhun
Murali is appropriate in his role
while Asha sharath has a decent
role that she does with flair.
Bhumika, Sreekanth and the rest of
the cast play their parts without
resorting to any big melodrama.
The music by Navaneeth Sundar is
ok, with 'Kadalil' emerging a feel
good song, while the rest of the beat
filled songs are marred by average
lyrics. The BG scores by Gopi sundar,
a usual are good.
In the final analysis, 'Buddy' at least
makes an attempt to tell a new tale,
though it is draped in the regular
bottle..Fine dialogues and sequences
are there, but few and far in
between.

Singam 2 Movie Review
![]() |
| Singam 2 Movie Review |
Hari is a director known to indulge
in some pot boiling commercial film
making, and nothing less. The
movie shoots off right from where
Singam was left off, the die hard
Duraisingam avenging his pride,
only to be delegated as an
Undercover agent to unearth the
venal events that take place on the
coastline. He moonlights his secret
mission by posing as an NCC officer
of a school, and yet Hari makes him
look powerful.
And as you may have predicted,
Hansika is the beautiful damsel
whose one sided love story shoots
off, and elsewhere is Anushka aka
Kavya still waiting for Duraisingam.
Trying to squeeze too much in the
box, Hari then introduces three
antagonists who are armed to kill
anyone who interrupts their
smuggling. Santhanam is the office
boy who plays Pakki giving us jolts
of giggles also playing as the
sidekick for a while. If Singam had
Erimalai's comedy sending us in
guffaws, well this time Erimalai's
tenure is more of a character role
than comic.
Now with all the fiasco in the first
half, second half is about
Duraisingam's antics in bringing the
baddies down to justice including
the International smuggler Danny.
So what leads up is quite
predictable, yet to watch and find
out.
Ups & Downs:
Singam 2 is everything you would
look for, love, masala, sentiment,
raw Action and so on, however
adding a slight overdose to every
single element mentioned, as a
whole it almost topples over. Hari's
justification to Duraisingam's
character deserves a special
mention as yet again this will also
be a tribute to the cops, such is the
power the role delivers. Suriya
carries the octane energy from the
first part intact and if the intro
scene was viola unleashed, then the
scene when he resumes DSP
command is MASS undoubtedly.
The movie is all about Duraisingam
"The one man army" who is the
usual loud and honest. Unlike the
first part where Prakash Raj's
character had some justice, three
villains and none really make a
mark according to the script. Hari
could've given some more power to
the antagonists, to make it look
evenly matched. Given the space
for baddies, it just adds to the
endless list of outwitting and action
sequences. Priyan's camera work is
pretty laudable for the scenes in
South Africa, however back here
it's a lot of tilts and zooms.
Another mismatch in the movie
comes in the form of the heroines,
both loosely fit into the story.
Hansika, though is always a treat to
watch is abruptly cut short in the
second half without proper justice
and Anushka's role is not meaty
either, making her presence as an
extended cameo with songs.
Santhanam steals the show with his
USP of one liners and witty jokes,
however Vivek's character has been
sized down. Yet another big crater
size hole in this movie is DSP's BGM
and music, which does not offer
anything new and is monotonous.
Ergo, exiting Singam 2 will send you
mixed reactions as the problem
with the movie is its overdose of
everything stuffed in a bag that
overflows. However the intentions
of the director are pretty clear, a
mass pot boiling commercial cinema
that will surely entertain you, if not
for its arguable length. Singam 2
will run to packed house for the
dude Suriya and Hari's commercial
outburst.
Verdict : An overdose of
everything, yet watch it for
Suriya!
Stars : 3/5
